Blues v Saints preview

Carlton proved their top four potential against Fremantle last Saturday defeating the fellow contender by 31 points at Friday night’s venue.

On a very congested ladder, the victory kept them fifth, but equal second on points with three other teams (Geelong, Brisbane and Fremantle), one win behind the Demons. And the navy blues are welcome back Adam Cerra from a hamstring to join the hard running super star Sam Walsh in the Carlton line up.

On the flip side, St Kilda are hovering between contender and failure yet again. The Saints have publicly backed out of contract coach Brett Ratten, but at 8-6 for the season – and the shadow of an Alistair Clarkson recruitment looming over several clubs – every match is important for the Saints and their coach.

Especially following last week’s SCG embarrassment at the hands of the Sydney Swans by 51 points. After a reported physical altercation involving Paddy Ryder and Brad Hill, denied by St Kilda, both men return on Friday night.

Friday night’s match is also a special one for Carlton being their seventh annual Carlton Respects game promoting the importance of gender equality and prevention of violence against women.

Carlton prevailed by 31 points last year at Marvel.
