An eight-goal masterclass by Josh Green steered Clarence to a massive win over SFL Premier League rookie Brighton at Ninja Stadium on Saturday and inflicted the Robins’ first triple-figure loss since joining the big time.

The Roos ran riot on their home deck and there was nothing Brighton could do to stop them on their way to a 131-point win _ by far the biggest winning margin of the season by any team.

Clarence was unstoppable in the first half, soaring to 78-0 until Cody Morgan kicked an incredible goal from the boundary line to post Brighton’s first just before half-time.

Brighton hit back in the third term, restricting Clarence to four goals while kicking one of their own, but the Roos got off the chain again in the fourth to post their biggest score so far.

Clarence coach Grant Fagan felt his team may have over-used the ball in the second term, but called it “a good, even performance”.

“Our defensive efforts were really consistent all day and whilst it’s a good, solid win in terms of the scoreboard, we also had a win in terms of the goals we set for the game,” Fagan said.

The win gave Clarence a 3-1 win-loss ratio and elevated it back to second on the ladder as best of the rest behind undefeated Lauderdale.

After his team’s win over North Hobart at North Hobart Oval on Anzac Day, Lauderdale coach Brent Dolliver said his side was not yet at its best.

Likewise, Fagan believes his team still has more to give.

“We are working toward that every week,” he said.

“About 80 per cent of the time today we delivered the ball quickly through the midfield and played some really exciting footy.

“You are going to make mistakes when you play that type of footy, and we accept that, but I think each week we are getting better at it.”

Brighton’s renewed determination after the long break tested the Roos.

“They came out hard in the third quarter but we were able to settle things down and got on with it again, which was good,” Fagan said.

“I was happy they didn’t drop off, do lazy things, and continued to work hard.”

Green’s bag of eight is the best individual performance so far, pipping the seven goal haul Sam Siggins kicked for Lauderdale against North Hobart.

Brighton star Darcy Gardner was one of the few Robins that the Roos could not control, along with fine performances by David Monks, Riley Best and Nathan Nus.

Brighton’s other two goals came from Max Lamb and Jacob Young.
