Suns v Magpies preview
Perhaps unexpectedly, both Gold Coast (11th) and Collingwood (7th) find themselves pushing for a top eight spot half way through 2022.
Craig McRae has defied the rookie coach tag, in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year, registering nine wins from 14 games and Stuart Dew has silenced speculation about an Alastair Clarkson arrival at the Suns putting his team in a position to make their very first finals.
A quick bounce back from an agonising 93-91 loss to Port Adelaide last week is what the doctor orders for the Suns, but it does not get any easier against Collingwood hungry for a sixth straight win and push even further into the eight.
The Pies seemingly put the Jordan De Goey situation and surrounding controversy to one side last week against GWS and their midfield star will return on the Gold Coast.
Midfielder Izak Rankine will be monitored this week after suffering a heavy blow against Port Adelaide.
Collingwood are two wins ahead of the Suns on the AFL table heading into round 16 starting Thursday.
