The South Fremantle Football club is in mourning after a WAFL Colts player passed away in a tragic car accident on Saturday night.

Nick Campo, 18, died at the scene of a vehicle rollover and collision in North Lake, south of Perth.

South Fremantle chief executive Cameron Britt said the club is in “deep shock” after learning of the harrowing accident.

“South Fremantle Football Club is deeply saddened by news of a car accident overnight involving several of our Colts players, resulting in the tragic death of South Fremantle footballer Nick Campo,” Britt said in a statement.

“We are a club in deep shock, focused upon supporting our players, staff and their families in these tragic circumstances.

“We ask that all involved are given the appropriate space and respect to grieve.”

Campo’s father Daniel took to social media on Sunday morning, telling friends that the family had been “ripped apart.”

“In the early hours of this morning our beautiful son Nick passed away after he was involved in tragic car accident,” he wrote. “Our lives have been ripped apart, 18 years old, a future with so much hope taken away, we are praying others in the car involved will be OK.”

Just last week, Nick’s older sister Eva played in Claremont’s WAFLW premiership.

Three other male passengers were rushed to Royal Perth Hospital. One male and one female passenger of the Jeep were taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital with minor injuries.

Police say that at about 11.40pm, a white Toyota Hilux utility was travelling south east on Farrington Road when it crashed and rolled before colliding with a black SUV, which was travelling west on Farrington Road.

Officers are appealing for anyone with any relevant information, or who saw the Toyota being driven in the time leading up to the crash.

Campo, a product of the South Coogee Junior Football Club, has played four games for the Bulldogs this year. He last played for South Fremantle a week ago in round 14, named by the coaches in the bests after 11 touches against Claremont.

The Bulldogs had a bye this weekend.
