In an April Fool’s Day bonanza for punters, last Saturday’s rained-out Doomben meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday to coincide with major races in Sydney.
With Brisbane drenched last Saturday, Racing Queensland officials decided to abandon the meeting and in a double blow for punters, the Rosehill meeting in Sydney was also cancelled due to wet weather.
Ten races will now be held at Doomben on Tuesday and another seven on Wednesday, when the rain is expected to return, with up to 30mm predicted.
Tuesday’s meeting at Rosehill Gardens will feature Group 1 races the $1.5m Tancred Stakes (2400m) and $750,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), the Group 2 Neville Sellwood Stakes (2000m), Emancipation Stakes and Tulloch Stakes plus the Group 3 Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) and Doncaster Prelude (1500m).

Australian Trainers’ Association boss Cameron Partington said his organisation instigated the push to reschedule the Doomben meeting in a “massive win for the industry”.
“We went to Racing Queensland (acting) chief executive Lachlan Murray straight after the Rosehill announcement and said ‘we should be taking advantage of this situation’,” Partington said.
“We’re very pleased that they listened when we said that they should strongly consider running the Doomben meeting in conjunction with Rosehill.”
Saturday's postponed meeting at the @BrisRacingClub has been transferred to this Tuesday, April 1 at Doomben.

A Maiden Handicap (1350m) scheduled for Doomben on Wednesday has been transferred to Ipswich on the following day.
“It is disappointing for those participants but Racing Queensland has made good the best they can by rescheduling with the same prizemoney ($40,000) to the next day,” Partington said.
“At the end of the day, the industry has had a massive win.”
