The Gold Coast racetrack has looked more like a construction zone of late, but it’s still better than a freezing winter in Goulburn for trainer Kurt Goldman, who landed the richest win of his career with roughie Arts Object in The Wave on Saturday.
Looking to reinvent his business following the death of his biggest owner Alan Cardy, Goldman made the move to the Gold Coast on a wing and a prayer and struck gold in a huge way with jockey Angela Jones.
Disregarded by bookmakers, Goldman had unwavering faith in the mare and picked up a $345,000 winner’s cheque thanks to a $200,000 Magic Millions bonus in a win that is set to solidify his position on the Gold Coast.
With just seven boxes, Goldman hopes the win can put his name up in lights on the Glitter Strip.

“The plan was always to come here in winter and test the waters,” he said.
“It has been a construction zone here at the Gold Coast but it still beats Goulburn in the winter.
“I wanted to give myself a good go, six to 12 months to see how I could go, it has paid off.
“I only have seven boxes here and I have a dozen horses.
“I am revamping, I lost my big owner when he passed away and I have to rebuild, get boxes and owners.”
Despite her $61 quote, Goldman said he was keen on the four-year-old on Saturday, in what was a six-month plan to get to The Wave.
“I have always loved the horse and have been telling the owners he has Group-level ability for a long time,” he said.
“It is one of the better horses I have trained and I have had some pretty good ones over the years.
“For her to be able to do that on the big day in the race we targeted was pretty special.”
It also marked the richest win of Jones’s career, in a race full of hard luck stories, with race favourite Zoe’s Promise held up for the entire straight to finish fifth.
Jockey Tim Clark received a reprimand from stewards for desperately trying to squeeze between two runners in the straight.
“(Goldman) Took the risk of putting the visors on and we thought he was going to overdo it but in the end it was perfect,” Jones said.
“She jumped out, we got the sweetest run and she’s put her head down and went to sleep and she was travelling like nothing was going to beat her.”
