Tasmania Devils women have lost former state captain Jacinta Limbrick for their clash with Port Melbourne
A Tasmania Devils midfield mover and shaker could be sidelined for up to six weeks with a broken rib. The coach has detailed how she will be replaced for the women’s clash with Port Melbourne this weekend.
Tasmania has lost gun midfielder Jacinta Limbrick for its second state academy clash with Port Melbourne at UTas Stadium on Saturday while another Devil’s star dodged a knee injury to be fit in time for the showdown.
Limbrick copped a broken rib late the Tasmanian women’s thrilling win over SANFL club Norwood at the Twin Ovals nine days ago.
Tasmania’s former North Melbourne VFLW midfielder Perri King injured her knee in the last quarter of the same game, but will be able to take her place in the side against the Borough.
Tasmania coach Jodie Clifford said Limbrick was unlucky to end up with a broken rib from her courage a marking contest.
“That’s a big out for us,” Clifford said.
“She crashed into another player and came off sore but then went back on.
“She’s as tough as nails.”
Limbrick had scans late last week and medicos delivered the bad news.
“That’s when she found out why she was a bit sore, and the doctors are saying she could be out for six weeks,” Clifford said.
“She’s tough and she says she’ll be back before then.”
Limbrick’s power through the middle and capacity to surge forward and score goals will take some replacing.
“We will miss her footy smarts and her ability to cover the ground, particularly on a big ground like UTas Stadium we will certainly feel that,’ Clifford said.
“We’ll go back to the drawing board and take a look at how we cover that.
“I think we’ve got a couple of really strong contenders who will fill that role quite well.”
King is making a strong recovery from a bruised knee.
“She landed on her knee and it swelled up,” Clifford said.
“She’s had a week of rehab and started training again at the back end of last week.
“She’s going to be fine _ she will be raring to go.”
Limbrick will also miss the Tasmanian women’s third game of their interstate series against North Melbourne in Hobart on March 22.
The Tasmania men’s academy side takes on Frankston on the same day.
The venue is yet to be announced.
